The right size, explained

The standard desktop wallpaper size is 1920×1080 (Full HD, 16:9), with 2560×1440 and 3840×2160 (4K) for sharper displays; phone wallpapers are vertical — from 1170×2532 to 1320×2868 on current iPhones and up to 1440×3120 for Android flagships.

Folding phones are the exception: the iPhone Duo's inner screen is 1878 × 2670 and the Pixel 11 Pro Fold's is 2076 × 2152, close to square.

A wallpaper bigger than the screen scales down cleanly; a smaller one turns soft when the system enlarges it to fill the screen.

Why your phone trims the sides

Drawn at the same width: a 9:16 picture is shorter than a phone screen, which is 19.5:9 or 20:9.

The phone fills the height and trims the sides: keep the subject in the middle.

From the generator to your screen

The AI wallpaper generator downloads at 1280 × 720 pixels at 16:9 and 720 × 1280 at 9:16 with the Auto model. That is smaller than most screens, so enlarge it with the image upscaler before you set it: ×2 gives 2560 × 1440, ×4 gives 5120 × 2880.

Pick the factor by your screen: the table below says which one fills it without stretching.

How much to upscale the download

Upscale	Fills
Upscale ×2: 2560 × 1440 (or 1440 × 2560)	Full HD and QHD monitors, 1920 × 1200 laptops, iPhone 17e, Galaxy S26, Pixel 11 and the outer screens of the folding phones
Upscale ×4: 5120 × 2880 (or 2880 × 5120)	4K and ultrawide monitors, 2560 × 1600 laptops, every Mac, iPhone 17, Air and Pro models, Galaxy S26 Ultra, Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL, Xiaomi 17 Ultra and the inner screens of the folding phones

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Visit the help center →

What size should a desktop wallpaper be?

Match your display: 1920×1080 for Full HD, 2560×1440 for QHD and 3840×2160 for 4K. A 4K wallpaper also looks sharp on smaller screens, because scaling an image down keeps its detail.

What size is an iPhone wallpaper?

Current iPhones go from 1170×2532 (iPhone 17e) to 1320×2868 pixels (iPhone 18 Pro Max), per Apple's tech specs. The folding iPhone Duo is 1878 × 2670 inside and 1398 × 2034 outside.

What size is an Android wallpaper?

It depends on the phone: 1080 × 2340 on the Galaxy S26, 1440 × 3120 on the Galaxy S26 Ultra and 1344 × 2992 on the Pixel 11 Pro XL. Most are 19.5:9 or 20:9, taller than a 9:16 picture.

Why does my phone cut off the sides of my wallpaper?

Phones are taller than 9:16, about 19.5:9 or 20:9. The phone fills the height of the screen and trims the sides, so keep the subject in the middle of the picture.

Why does my wallpaper look stretched?

The image ratio doesn't match the screen (e.g., 4:3 art on a 16:9 monitor). Generate it at your screen's shape, or set the wallpaper to Fill, which crops it instead of stretching it.

What size does the CreArt wallpaper generator make?

With the Auto model, 1280 × 720 pixels at 16:9 and 720 × 1280 at 9:16. Upscale it ×2 to 2560 × 1440 for Full HD and QHD monitors, or ×4 to 5120 × 2880 for 4K, every Mac and the larger phones.
