How to make an album cover

Make an album cover with AI in 4 steps

CreArt's free AI Album Cover Maker turns a short idea into a 3000 × 3000 cover, usually in under 20 seconds, with your artist name and title spelled right. No design software, no template hunting.

  1. Describe your music

Type what you see when you hear the song: a scene, an object, a color, a mood. Stuck? Tap the dice for an idea, or start from one of the sample covers.

  2. Pick a style

Choose one of 16 styles, from hip-hop, rock and lo-fi to synthwave, vaporwave and Y2K chrome. Want to be on the cover? Add your own photo and the AI turns it into that style.

  3. Add your artist name and title

Type them in and they are set on the artwork in the style's typeface, spelled exactly as you wrote them. Change the position, font or color at any time without generating again.

  4. Download your cover

Download a 3000 × 3000 px JPG: the size Apple Music recommends, and within the 640 to 10,000 px that Spotify accepts. Want it to move? Turn the cover into a short looping video with image to video.

Real typography

Your artist name and title, spelled right

AI image models are great at pictures and bad at letters: ask one for your band name and it often comes back misspelled or turned into squiggles. So here the AI only paints the artwork, and your artist name and album title are set on top as real type, in a typeface picked for each style: blackletter for hip-hop, neon for synthwave, a marker for punk, a typewriter for lo-fi.

Because the text is not baked into the image, you can change it whenever you like: move it to the top or the bottom, switch the font, pick another color, fix a typo, all without generating again. Need a logo for the merch too? Make one with the AI logo generator.

Your photo on the cover

Turn your own photo into cover art

Want your face on the record? Add a photo and pick a style: the AI repaints the background, colors and light in that look and keeps you recognizable. A clear, well-lit photo where your face is not too small works best. No photo at hand? Try the sample one.

For a proper shoot first, the AI musician photoshoot turns one selfie into a set of press photos, and the background remover cuts you out for a cleaner layout. Once the cover is done, animate it into a short looping video for your posts.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the album cover maker

Still have a question? Visit the help center →

Is this album cover maker free?
Yes. With the Auto model you can make album covers for free every day, without creating an account, and download them at 3000 × 3000 px. Premium models use credits from a plan.
Can I put my artist name and album title on the cover?
Yes. Type them in and they are set on the artwork as real text in the style's typeface, so they are always spelled exactly as you wrote them. You can change the position, font and color afterwards without generating again.
What size is the album cover?
The download is a 3000 × 3000 px JPG. That is the size Apple Music recommends, it fits the 640 to 10,000 px that Spotify accepts, and it is more than enough for Bandcamp, SoundCloud and podcast apps.
Can I use the cover for my release on streaming platforms?
Yes, you can use the covers you make for your singles, EPs, albums and mixtapes, including commercially. Check your distributor's artwork rules before you upload: some ask you to say if the artwork was made with AI, and all of them reject covers with logos, URLs or other artists' names.
Who owns the copyright of an AI album cover?
You can use your cover freely, but in the US an image made only by AI generally cannot be registered for copyright on its own, so someone could make something similar. Your own photo, your lettering and the edits you choose make the cover more distinctly yours.
Can I use my own photo?
Yes. Add a photo and pick a style: the AI restyles the background, colors and light and keeps you recognizable. With a photo, the text goes at the bottom by default so it does not cover your face.
Which AI model makes the covers?
By default the free Auto model paints the artwork, and you can switch to a premium model for more detail. Whatever the model, the AI only paints the image: the artist name and title are added as real text by the tool.
How do I write a good album cover prompt?
Describe one strong image instead of the genre: "a burning piano on a frozen lake" works better than "sad rock cover". Name a main subject, a setting and a light or color, and let the style do the rest. Leave the band name out of the prompt; it goes in its own field.
What makes a good album cover?
One clear subject that still reads as a small square thumbnail, a color palette that matches the mood of the music, and a name and title that are easy to read. Simple usually beats busy at playlist size.
Can I make mixtape, playlist or podcast covers too?
Yes. They all use the same square format, so describe the mixtape, the playlist mood or the show instead of a song, and put its name in the title field.
