How to Write AI Art Prompts
Learn to write AI art prompts that work: the 4-part anatomy, what to skip, and worked examples you can run directly in the free generator.
The 4-part anatomy
Every effective image prompt answers four questions in order: WHAT (a concrete subject — "a lighthouse keeper's desk"), HOW rendered (medium/style — "warm digital painting"), LIT how ("single oil lamp glow"), FEELING what (one mood — "quiet solitude"). That's it.
What to skip: quality incantations ("masterpiece, 8k, best quality" — modern models ignore them), contradictions ("minimalist with intricate details"), and lists of ten adjectives where one precise noun would do. Specific nouns beat stacked adjectives: "a rusted 1970s bicycle" outperforms "a very old detailed vintage bike".
Iterate like a scientist: change ONE element per generation. If composition is right but mood is off, touch only the lighting words. See what an AI prompt is for fundamentals, then practice with the examples below. When a prompt clicks, take it straight into the art generator and iterate from there.
The prompts
Each image was generated with the exact prompt on its card — copy it or run it directly.

The formula, applied
warm digital painting of a lighthouse keeper's desk with maps and a brass compass, lit by a single oil lamp, quiet solitude

Subject precision
photograph of a rusted 1970s racing bicycle leaning on a sunflower field fence, morning haze, nostalgic mood

One mood only
minimal flat illustration of a person walking into a vast snowfield, tiny figure, enormous negative space, feeling of calm insignificance

Medium does the work
detailed ink illustration of an old oak tree with a treehouse, crosshatched shading, storybook style

Light as character
portrait photography of a western european potter at her wheel lit only by golden window light, clay dust in the air, focused serenity

Iterate one variable
warm digital painting of a lighthouse keeper's desk with maps and a brass compass, lit by cold blue moonlight, quiet solitude
