What Is Inpainting?
Inpainting is AI's way of filling a selected area of an image — removing objects or replacing regions so seamlessly the edit disappears.
Try inpaintingPaint an area and add something new to a photo. The plain-English answer
Inpainting is the AI technique of regenerating a selected region inside an image — you mark an area (an unwanted object, a blemish, a gap) and the model fills it with content that matches the surrounding scene. It's the engine behind object removal, watermark removal and photo restoration.
The model looks at everything around the masked area — textures, lighting, perspective — and synthesizes a patch that continues them, which is why good inpainting is invisible rather than smudged.
Its sibling, outpainting, works outward instead: extending the image beyond its original borders using the same scene-continuation logic.
