Outpainting is the AI technique of extending an image beyond its original edges: the model studies the existing scene and generates a natural continuation of it — more sky, more room, more background — so a photo can be "uncropped" or reformatted to a different aspect ratio without stretching or blurring.

It solves an everyday problem: art in the wrong shape. A square album cover that needs to become a 16:9 banner, a portrait photo that has to fill a widescreen slot — outpainting builds the missing canvas instead of distorting the original.
